The John C. Akard Scholarship was established to honor John C. Akard, United States Bankruptcy Judge (retired), Lubbock Division of the Northern District of Texas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Currently a second year student in good standing in the Law School.
(2) Interest in commercial law and bankruptcy; and
(3) Interest in participating as a third-year student in activities of the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar. (The primary activity of the WTBBA is a monthly luncheon meeting attended by many of the area bankruptcy practitioners and bankruptcy judges. The luncheon meeting typically includes a presentation on a bankruptcy related subject. The WTBBA also co-sponsors an annual Bankruptcy Institute.)
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Submit a resume together with a cover letter addressed to the John C. Akard Scholarship Selection Committee summarizing your qualifications and your interest in commercial law, bankruptcy, and participating as a third-year student in the activities of the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association.
Applications should be delivered to Professor Pawlowic (Faculty Suite 311) no later than April 20, 2010, 4:00 P.M. Please feel free to contact Professor Pawlowic with any questions. The amount of the one-year scholarship varies depending upon interest earnings on the endowment, but in past years has approximated $2,000. The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar.
