August 2014 deadlines: ABA Section of International Law Rona Mears Student International Law Competition, on this year’s topic of “Did Russia violate international law through its 2014 actions in the Crimea,” with a prize of $5000 and a deadline of Aug. 15, 2014;

September 2014 deadlines: PIABA Bar Journal 2014 James E. Beckley Securities Arbitration and Law Competition, on any aspect of Securities law, Securities arbitration, the Federal Arbitration Act, Title 19, US Code, Section 1-14, or the FINRA Code of Arbitration, effective 4/16/07 and any changes or proposed changes to that Code, with prizes of $1000, $750, and $500, plus online publication, and a deadline of Sept. 19, 2014;


November 2014 deadlines: Center for Alcohol Policy National Essay Contest on the following topic: As states contemplate the legalization of prohibited products, like marijuana, what are some lessons policymakers and regulators can learn from the movement to end alcohol Prohibition in the 1930s? Prizes are $5000, $2500, and $1000, and the deadline is Nov. 17, 2014;
