February OCI Program Employers Available for Viewing

February OCI Program Employers Available for Viewing

You may now view Employer Registrations for the February OCI Program! Employer registration is open through January 21, so check back for additional employers next week. Bidding begins January 21 and runs through January 27. Interviews for the February session will be held February 17-21. Pay attention to the “Interviewing Location” section when reviewing employers. If the listing states “Career Center,” the employer will conduct in-person interviews at the law school. If the listing states “Virtual Interview,” the employer will conduct virtual interviews on the date indicated. “Resume Collect” means the employer will review resumes on their own time and schedule any interviews directly and at their convenience.

Below are important dates for the February OCI Program. Mark your calendar!

Spring 2025 February Interview Program: February 17-21, 2025

January 17: Student viewing of employer participants

January 21-27: Student application period

January 28-February 3: Employer Preselect period

February 4-6 (until noon): Student Accept/Decline for Preselect Interviews

How do I prepare?

Prepare for bidding by finalizing your application materials. Employers may request a resume, cover letter, transcript, writing sample, and/or references or recommendations. You may contact Kayla Wimberley or Saige Lee for assistance with your application materials. Send your documents for review well in advance of the OCI deadlines. Additionally, guidance handouts are available in your Career & Professional Development Blackboard Course and on the Resources tab in Symplicity.

Writing Sample. All writing samples must be no longer than 10 pages and must have your name at the top—preferably your letterhead from your resume. Review the Writing Samples handout.

Transcripts. You may not use your MyTechLaw version of your transcript for job applications. Request an electronic version of your transcript from the Registrar’s office here under “Current Students”: https://www.depts.ttu.edu/law/academics/registrar/transcript.php. Please include your R Number in your request. Transcript requests must be made no later than January 21 to ensure you receive it in time to submit applications. This is a hard deadline from the Registrar’s Office.

Attire. Do you have your outfit prepared in the event you are asked to interview? If not, start thinking about what you will wear now. You should dress like an attorney. Review the Interview Attire handout on Blackboard or Symplicity or ask a Career & Professional Development team member.

To which employers should I apply?

Apply to employers that fit your geographic and practice area preferences. Most employer websites contain a wealth of information. Researching employers before you apply will assist you in preparing for an interview. Employers expect you to know about their organization, practice areas, and ask informed questions of your interviewers. Review the handout on Pre-Interview Employer Research.  In addition to employer websites, you can obtain information about firms and attorneys from LexisNexis, Westlaw, and Bloomberg.

How do I apply?

1.      Log in to Texas Tech Law School Symplicity at https://law-ttu-csm.symplicity.com/students.

2.      You must upload a resume to your Symplicity account to view and bid for employers.

3.      Click on the [OCI] tab on the navigation bar.

4.      Filter the session list by selecting [Spring 2025 February Interview Program: February 17-21, 2025] from the [Session] drop-down menu. The resulting list of employers contains only those that have requested your class year.

5.      Click "Review" for each employer. You will be redirected to a page that explains information about the position and what materials you will need to prepare for your application.

6.      Under "Bid Details" on the right-hand side of the webpage, select the documents you wish to include in your application.

a.       You must have already uploaded these documents under the "My Documents" tab.

b.      Each cover letter should be customized and addressed to specific employers. When you place your bid for employers you will then select which cover letter you want that employer to receive. A maximum of 25 cover letters at one time can be saved on Symplicity. You may delete each cover letter after each application.

7.      Click "Apply."

Contact Kayla Wimberley (kayla.wimberley@ttu.edu), Saige Lee (saige.lee@ttu.edu),  or Connie Bowers (connie.bowers@ttu.edu) with any questions.

FAQs for OCI:

1.  Is there an advantage to submitting my application on the first day of bidding versus the last day of bidding? No. Employers will receive all student applications at the same time when bidding has ended.

2.  Is there a limit on how many applications I can submit during OCI? No.

3.  I am running out of room for documents, what do I do? Once you submit a cover letter to an employer, you can delete that document under the "My Documents" tab to make room for others. Your application submitted to the employer will remain intact. This way, you can (and should) have a different cover letter for each employer without running out of space.
