The 2024 Blask Fellowship

The Southern District of Texas Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the Blask

Foundation are pleased to announce the opening of the 2024 Blask Fellowship

application period.

The Blask Fellowship awards grants to a limited number of law students who serve as

legal interns for at least six weeks during the summer of 2024 with a federal court or

agency located in the Southern District of Texas, including but not limited to:

- U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit

- U.S. District Court (District and Magistrate Judges)

- U.S. Bankruptcy Court

- Office of the U.S. Trustee

- Federal Bureau of Investigation

- Federal Public Defender

- U.S. Attorney’s Office

- EEOC

- U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement

- Office of Homeland Security

- NASA The Southern District of Texas

Eligibility:

Full-time students at any accredited U.S. law school who:

(1) have completed a full year of course work by the end of June 2024;

(2) at the time of application, have a GPA in the top half of the applicant’s law school class (or similar standing for schools that do not publish class rank); and

(3) have secured or will secure one or more internships with a federal court or agency within the U.S. Southern District of Texas.

Although applicants are eligible for a Blask Fellowship if they are receiving compensation for the internship or another position over the summer, financial need is taken into account as one factor in awarding the scholarships. The Blask Fellowship is available to students receiving course credit for their internship. However, the Federal Bar Association has no control over whether recipients may receive course credit if they accept the scholarship. Applicants should check with their law school or program sponsor as to whether accepting this scholarship may impact the recipient’s entitlement to concurrent course credit.

The receipt of this Grant is dependent upon the completion of the terms and conditions of the summer internship for a minimum of six weeks. Upon request, the applicant must provide a letter to the Federal Bar Association from one of the participating agencies or courts stating that the recipient has been accepted for a summer internship. Applicants should confirm with their intern employer their ability to accept Fellowship proceeds.
