Texas Tech Law American Inn of Court - Pupil Application Deadline Extended

The Texas Tech Inn of Court is expanding its focus on Mentoring by adding ten (10) new student (Pupil) positions in our Inn of Court for 2022-2023. You are invited to apply!! This offer applies to both rising 3L and rising 2L students.

The Texas Tech University School of Law American Inn of Court is the first Inn established in West Texas. The American Inns of Court is a national organization that actively engages more than 25,000 judges, attorneys, law professors, and law students. The Mission of the American Inns of Court is “to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills.” The Inn achieves this goal by gathering local attorneys for dinner once a month, during which the members interact with each other and also participate in continuing legal education programs, most frequently emphasizing ethics, professionalism, civility, and practice skills. Senior attorneys serve as mentors for more junior members.

Tracing its origins to 13th century England, when new attorneys apprenticed in an “Inn,” membership in an American Inn is composed of the following categories: Masters of the Bench—judges, experienced lawyers, and law professors; Barristers—lawyers with some experience who do not meet the minimum requirements for Masters; Associates—lawyers who do not meet the minimum requirement for Barristers; and Pupils—law students.

The Texas Tech Inn seeks 10 students for its pupil positions. (We will also select 2–4 students to serve as substitutes; substitutes attend meetings on an as-needed basis if a non-student Inn member cannot attend a particular meeting.) If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest addressed to Dean Jack Nowlin and a current resume to Paula Smith, Inn Counselor, by email at paula.smith@ttu.edu, by June 5,2022.

In your letter, please include the following information:
- Your interest in being an Inn member;
- What you hope to achieve by serving as an Inn
pupil;
- Your willingness to attend all meetings and to participate with your pupilage group;
- Your anticipated graduation date;
- Where you would like to practice after graduation; and
- What type of law you would like to practice after graduation.

The Inn will meet the first OR second Tuesday of most school months, in the Law School, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Meetings for 2022-2023 are planned for these dates: September 13, October 11, November 8, February 7, March 7, and April 11.

A student member may serve only a one-year term. Preference will be given to those who graduate in May 2023. Dues for the year will be $60.00 per student and are covered by the law school. Dues cover local and national membership, dinner at each meeting, and various administrative costs associated with Inn administration.
