Scholarship Opportunity The Board of the Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation

Each year, the DHLF awards scholarships to Hispanic 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls in law school, and offers bar study grants to Hispanic graduates.  The DHLF also sponsors judicial internships for 1L and 2L students with Dallas-area civil and criminal courts.  We would like to invite Hispanic law students at your law school to apply for these opportunities.

This year, we have created a single application form that students can use for all programs in which they are interested.  Application instructions and a link to the website are below.  The deadline varies depending on the type of award being pursued by the applicant.  As explained in more detail below, those students who are applying for a judicial internship will need to submit the applications no later than February 15, 2019, while students applying solely for scholarships or grants must submit their completed applications by March 8, 2019.

 Scholarship & Bar Study Guidelines

The following Hispanic law students are eligible to apply for a scholarship : (1) incoming first-year law students who have applied to start law school in 2019, (2) students who will be in their second year in 2019, and (3) third-year law students who will graduate in 2019 or later are all eligible to apply.  Completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST on March 8, 2019, and decisions will be announced by April 30, 2019.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

 Judicial Internship Guidelines

The DHLF invites those Hispanic law students who are in the process of completing their first- or second-year classes to apply for the DHLF Judicial Internship Program.  Judges from Dallas area civil and criminal courts will be participating. Applicants must have completed first-year law school courses from an accredited law school, including civil procedure, legal research, and legal writing courses.  The DHLF grants stipends to the students chosen to participate in the program.

Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum of a four-week internship.  The internships will commence no earlier than May 20, 2019, and must be completed no later than July 12, 2019.  Interns will receive a stipend of approximately $2,000.00 for the four weeks.  Completed applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM CST, February 15, 2019.  Intern selection will be announced no later than March 15, 2019.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please note that a single application may be submitted for the Scholarship/Bar Study Grant and Judicial Internship Programs.  If you are applying for both, please submit all application materials by the earlier deadline.
