Summer Externship Class Mandatory Information Meeting Feb 9 or 12 at Noon Rm 105
This summer, Professor Myhra will be teaching the externship course, which is a two-credit elective course. In this course, students work 130 hours under the supervision of a lawyer in a public office or for a judge. The course also includes a mandatory classroom component and several writing assignments. Under the rules of the ABA, students who take the course for academic credit may not receive any compensation for their work.
Students have the option of working in Lubbock or outside of Lubbock. For those who choose to stay in Lubbock, Dean Myhra will place students in a variety of offices in Lubbock, i.e., students do not need to find a placement. For students who choose to work outside of Lubbock, those students are responsible for finding a placement and then obtaining approval from Dean Myhra.
Dean Myhra, along with representatives from Career Services, will host mandatory information sessions to explain all the details and requirements of the summer externship class. The sessions will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 9 and Friday, February 12.
All students interested in taking the externship class this summer must attend one of the two meetings. Please keep in mind that some positions, including positions with the Texas Supreme Court, may require externship class enrollment. If you are interested in receiving academic credit for an externship this summer, YOU MUST ATTEND ONE SESSION.
