Blackboard Learn Platform Maintenance and Enhancements
Blackboard Engineers release annual, planned software enhancements, and the TTU Blackboard Management Team has worked collaboratively to review and test the proposed Blackboard improvements during the course of the fall semester. The TTU IT Division, TTU Worldwide eLearning, and the TLPDC have selected an installation date that will cause the least disruption to faculty and students. On January 4, 2015 from 12:30 am to 12:00 am on January 5, 2015, the TTU IT Division will partner with Blackboard engineers to make the software enhancements available for TTU faculty and students. Please be aware that during this extended system maintenance period, all Blackboard services and features will be unavailable.

Please assist us in communicating with the faculty and students in your area; we appreciate your partnership as we work to make sure that all faculty and students are aware of the scheduled work and associated unavailability of services. The Blackboard Management Team sent a detailed message to Blackboard Faculty that explains not only the maintenance window, but also describes the feature enhancements they can expect when they return to the online classroom this spring semester.

The upgraded platform will contain the following enhancements (you may also click the link for further information):

• Anonymous and Delegated Grading
Improvements to the grading function in Blackboard to aid faculty in identifying delegates for grading, as well as to facilitate peer review with anonymous grading features.
• Assessments
Major technical improvements for calculated formula test questions, allowing more flexibility for instructors.
• Financial Aid reporting
Improved reporting features for student and course reporting, allowing the data to be easily transported to other platforms for analysis (Excel, SPSS, etc.).
• My Grades
Enhanced grading options for faculty, and new features for students as well.
• Portfolios
Includes major enhancements to the eportfolio course component, offering a more robust and feature rich tool for faculty and students.

The TLPDC and TTU Worldwide eLearning will host a series of “Come and Go” sessions in January to highlight the new features. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to create the best possible learning environment for Texas Tech University. Should you experience any issues outside of the window of 12:30 am on January 4, 2015 to 12:00 am on January 5, 2015, please contact IT Help Central at 806-742-4357(HELP) or ithelpcentral@ttu.edu.
