Today Susan Schorn, author of Smile at Strangers, and Other Lessons in the Art of Living Fearlessly, will be presenting: Samurai, Bullfights, and Black Belts: Leadership Tales from the Martial Arts at noon in 109. BBQ will be served!
The martial arts abound with tales by and about leaders, many of them involving self-sacrifice, discipline, and stupendous amounts of violence. What lessons can the modern citizen, who answers to a supervisor rather than an overlord, draw from these stories? Quite a few—leadership, it turns out, has not changed much since the days of the samurai. It's just gotten a little less bloodthirsty.
